Grateful to Be Alive via /r/gratitude

I am 36 years old. When I was 15 I was driving a four wheeler. I upshifted one time too many and the engine flared up. I looked down for a split second to see if my foot was under the shifter pedal and then that’s all I remember. I struck a tree and was thrown off the ATV striking my face, neck, and shoulder to the tree. The doctor treating me said if I would have been looking up instead of downward I would have been dead. I received a fractured orbital bone to the face, a face avulsion, abrasions to my neck and chest. Also a dislocated shoulder. I think of this when I am depressed about life and I get lifted up to be grateful I am alive.
