Day 221 • A long, long time ago… via /r/gratitude

However many thousands or millions or eons of years ago, one divine ancestor had the clever notion to use his hands to draw a symbol that represented something. Seriously. One person!

We will never know who that was, what symbol they created first, or how they communicated its meaning to another, or how pictorial language really first began. But that one person really and truly was the first.

Maybe this happened all over the world in a similar time frame, and multiple cultures all started somewhat together.. probably a metaphysical construct like the 100 monkeys thing, coupled with collective consciousness, and probably Mercury wasn’t exactly retrograde either. But still, just one being had the divine spark that really did began all written language.

I’m grateful for that guy (or gal 😉)
