Grateful that my parents passed on to me the Value of, Encouragement toward, confidence acquiring Education.
I am really grateful that I was taught and learned to value education. I am so very grateful that I am literate. What a privilege to be able to have a strong command of the English language, or even simply to be able to write or read. That is often taken for granted when so many around the world never learned to read or write even into adult years. Many would give anything to speak English. To be able to read and write is a blessing.
I have seen so many marginalized people devalued and treated quite badly by front line workers at agencies, knowing the people dont have the skill or confidence to speak up, to document things, to submit a report. My heart breaks when I think of many of my experiences where I needed advocacy help and could not find it, even as a person who has a good English command and who can read and write. I feel so much empathy for those people who cannot and really wonder how they manage to make it through each day, month, year, through life…and think that perhaps some may not. I feel really sad for people who are mistreated and do not have the skills to advocate for themselves.
Currently having my own challenges but I dream of getting them behind me and teaching literacy to others.
I truly am grateful for the confidence and expression this has given me.
