Gratitude for rather small body size (for the moment)
I just had a chat with my 12-year-old son, who has just returned from a visit to a relative's house.
He told me that there, he was having a small soccer ball play with a plastic soccer ball on the road, with a few of his cousins (3 people, including my son).
In one moment, one of his cousins kicked the ball far into the front yard of a house. It turned out that the house gate is locked, so they could not get in to retrieve the ball. My son noticed that there is a hole in the outer wall of the yard that was just enough for him to fit through, allowing him to enter. But he hesitated to do it.
Then a teen relative whose house he visited came over. My son explained what had happened. The teen relative tried to ring the bell and shouted to the house, hoping someone inside the house would open the gate. But nobody responded.
The teen said that there was usually a car in front of the house, but it was not that time. So he figured that the house was empty. He said that it's okay for my son to try entering the front yard, encouraging him to take the ball.
My son went in, managed to take the ball, and came back out safely.
So my son said in our chat that he feels grateful he happened to have fit body size that he can "save" the ball. Something he's usually self-conscious about compared to friends his age.
This somehow reflects to me that sometimes, things in our life may have a reason, even just for a moment. Even just for a "mere plastic ball".
