I’m grateful for opportunities to leave places better than I found them

Today I came across a park with an old mill foundation on a river. The picnic tables were all busted up and scattered, so I gathered everything into a big safe pile. A giant tree was split open with chain-sawed logs all over the place, so I rolled them all to the side. An 8" log was down across the trail, so I rotated it 90 degrees off the trail.

What I find is that humans love to build things, while maintenance is another story. Sometimes I contact the governing body, sometimes I don't. In this case, it's considerably better whether they come to get the rotten picnic tables or not.

Speaking of picnic tables. It's unbelievable how many rotten and/or busted picnic tables I've cleaned up. Many have screws and nails pointing out every which direction. I'll never understand why the stewards of those areas don't see it.

Anyway, it feels good to leave a place better than I found it.
