Grateful For Quitting Smoking
I’m grateful for a combination of things that allowed me to quit smoking after smoking for 43 years.
It started with a random post I saw here on Reddit. A guy built a smoking machine and filled it with cotton balls to simulate the lungs. It showed what the effects of the smoke would effect the lungs after one, two and five packs of cigarettes. I’ve seen tons of anti-smoking ads over the years but this one really opened my eyes to the junk I was pouring into my lungs.
The second thing that I’m grateful for, and the most important, is that I recognized my own weakness and inability to succeed on my own. I offered a sincere, fervent prayer for God to fight this battle for me.
Today is day 11 and I haven’t felt ANY cravings or withdrawal symptoms that caused me distress. I have had peace and confidence in the process. I have a mantra that I get joy from, something that I haven’t been able to claim for 43 years. I say to myself every now and then… “I don’t smoke.” I haven’t had a chance to use it out loud yet, but I’m excited for my next doctors check up to be able to answer the question, “Do you smoke?” with “No, I don’t smoke.”
