I’m grateful to have just gotten a text that the scholarship organization paying for my Kenyan “bonus daughter’ uni education finally came through with her rent for this month.

They authorized all of the girls in their program to leave their horrible dorm two months ago and promised to pay for their apartments, just as they had for their dorm, but this is the first payment they've made to the girls since they moved out.

I'm grateful it's Kenya and things are ridiculously cheap compared to the US, so my husband and I paid her deposit and first month's rent as well as the next (second) month's rent, and the charity finally came through with this month's. (Communication is spotty so I don't know if they paid any of the back expenses as well, but hopefully at least we're now on track for future rent.)

I'm also grateful we've been able to step in for her financially, since there are girls who don't have fairy godmothers who can when their own families can't, and I don't know how they've managed.
