The strange thing about memories is how they can feel more real than the moment you’re actually living.

Sometimes I’ll be sitting quietly, and a memory comes back so vividly that it’s like I’ve stepped out of the present and back into that exact second. I can smell the air, hear the laughter, even feel the temperature of the room. And yet, when I was actually living that moment, I probably didn’t notice half those details. It makes me wonder if the way we remember life is more powerful than the way we experience it. Maybe memories aren’t just recordings of what happened maybe they’re the versions of our lives that we slowly write and rewrite in our heads.

If that’s true, then in some ways, the past never stops changing.
